Presentation on the 2013 IChemE Awards short listed project to recover and reuse solvents in the highly regulated pharmaceutical sector.  The Avlon Avara solvent recovery unit has significantly reduced global hazardous waste generation, reduced the sites consumption of solvents and eliminated a significant number of tanker journeys, delivery and waste, a year, all while ensuring the recovered solvent is suitable for manufacture of the final stage of a drug substance.  The presentation will cover the technology used and the challenges which were overcome to deliver this process improvement.

This presentation will be of interest to any one working in the pharmaceutical industry or fine chemical industry where reduction of hazardous solvent waste or similar is an improvement area they are looking to develop.  It will also be of interest to anyone interested in a high level presentation on solvent recovery techniques which utilise distillation as the key recovery technology..

Speaker

Kevin is the Principal Chemical Engineer at Avara's Avlon drug substance manufacturing facility in Bristol, UK. He has worked at various pharmaceutical manufacturing and development sites over the last 17 years in both the UK and India, providing chemical engineering expertise for various capital manufacturing plant projects and drug development projects. Kevin was the lead chemical engineer on the Avara Avlon solvent recovery project during its design and installation and continues to support the plant on various continuous improvement activities.

Format

A one-hour online session: 40 minutes' presentation + 20 minutes' Q&A.
Duration (for CPD recording purposes): up to one hour.
