Spiraling costs in maintenance of ageing facilities have forced oil and gas operators to look into new way of doing things, especially technology for asset life extension. There has been an explosion of IT based technology in the asset integrity arena. 3D modelling, previously available only on CAD based computing platform are now making their way onto handheld mobile devices. Improved bandwidth and sensor technology has resulted in the possibility of real-time monitoring of corrosion degradation mechanism obviating the need for intrusive corrosion coupons which pose a hazard to maintenance personnel during retrieval. Augmented Reality which comes from the gaming industry is making its way into the industrial world, and into mobile devices, improving the quality of operator structured rounds. Improved data analytics based on artificial intelligence can predict failure modes in operations. Search engines when effectively deployed can vastly improve the quality of manual based “Management of Change” system. These and many others will be featured in this presentation.
Azmi has 34 years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry. He started his career as a design instrument engineer with Sime Engineering. Then later joined Shell in Upstream based in Miri, Sarawak. His career in Shell span 26 years in the Operations and Engineering Divisions, including a stint in Shell EP Technology Application Research based in Riswijk, Netherlands. There he took up a role as the Global Team Leader in Real Time Optimisation and was part of the Shell Smart Field team. Upon his return, he took up several positions in Shell Upstream International Asia and Shell Global Solutions in KL. His last assignment in Shell was as the Asia Pacific Regional Maintenance and Integrity Manager based in Miri, Sarawak. After leaving Shell, he joined PETRONAS in 2012 as the Head of Technical Integrity and Process Safety in the HSE division of Upstream. Whilst there he designed the Technical Integrity Process Safety program for global upstream. This is a 5 year focused program aiming on improving asset integrity and process safety in PETRONAS Upstream. Azmi joined Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company in January 2017 as the Head of HSSE after completing his contract with PETRONAS.
Azmi has an honours degree in Electronics & Control Engineering from Sunderland. He is the President of the Institute of Materials Malaysia and an Associate Fellow Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK.
