The Case for Study

5th Regional Process Safety Seminar

5th Regional Process Safety Seminar

22 April 2014, Sarawak, Malaysia

Organised in conjunction with the Safety & Loss Prevention Special Interest Group.

Over the recent years, we have continued to be soberly reminded of the risks of working at both onshore and offshore hazardous facilities through news of major accidents occurring abroad and locally. It is undeniable that many companies have invested resources in terms of effort and finance in ensuring heightened awareness of implementing safety at such facilities. The question is how much is enough to enable management of these facilities that the next major accident will not be reported from their assets?

The Case for Safety will be the theme of IChemE’s 5th Regional Process Safety Seminar. Various topics to be discussed will include:

  • is there need for more proactive and structured workforce engagement for implementing safety?
  • is there a need to develop a safety case regime which has been adopted in the North Sea and is of growing interest in the Asia Pacific region?
  • how does workforce behaviour affect the implementation of technical safety safeguards?
  • what are the most effective tools for implementing safety when addressing major accident hazards?
  • how can we more effectively embed the safety thinking to become integral of a young engineer?

Who will benefit?

  • managers, supervisors, engineers, safety personnel, and others involved in the design, operation, modification or maintenance of major hazard or other process plant
  • anyone who would like to develop further understanding of process safety

CPD points

CPD points will be awarded by BEM and CEP points will be awarded by DOSH.
