100 Years Palm Oil Industry Seminar
8 August 2017
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Process Engineering....A Key to Its Success
Malaysia leads a highly successful agricultural industry that has nurtured equally successful downstream processing sectors. The first commercial planting of oil palm was in 1917 in Tennamaran Estate in Selangor. In the 1960s the pace of cultivation of oil palms was accelerated. The Malaysian government encouraged technological improvements to further add value to its exports and palm oil has remained a top tier export (4th in 2016).
1960s: Milling, gateway to palm oil processing
1970s: Refining and the production of processed palm oil mainly for food
1980s: Oleochemical manufacturing further adding value downstream
2000s: Biodiesel to increase uptake of palm oil
2010s: Bioprocessing such as biorefining and biomass utilization
Malaysians adapted and built on existing processing technology and have made it the leading palm oil processing nation in the world. And with process engineers lie also the solutions for climate change.
- What has been achieved?

- What could the future bring?
Taking place on 8 August 2017 at the InterContinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, this day long seminar is the first to focus solely on processing.
