Texas City ExplosionProcess safety is everybody’s responsibility. However, safety managers and engineers often have a much better understanding of its importance and how it is affected by strategic management decisions than the top-level managers and directors making these decisions. It is therefore up to engineers at all levels to educate their bosses. This online presentation, by the Health and Safety Executive’s Ian Travers - a leading expert on chemical industry safety - shows how management decisions impact major hazard risks – and shares practical strategies on getting the message across to senior management.

Sustainable business success rests on safe operation – and the process of getting that right starts in the boardroom. Make sure those in the boardroom understand the importance and impact of their decisions.

Ian TraversThe presenter: Ian Travers heads the Chemical Industries Strategy Unit at Great Britain’s Health and Safety Executive. He is responsible for setting the direction and operational policy for the regulation of chemical industries in the UK. He was responsible for managing HSE’s strategic response to the 2005 explosion at Buncefield. Recent major accidents at Buncefield, the Texas City refinery and the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling platform illustrate how shortcomings in leadership by senior executives contributes to major incidents. Determined to address this, Ian has been instrumental in bringing together industry and the regulator to develop recognised safety standards in process safety leadership and process management covering anyone from front-line operators to chief executives of major hazard organisations.

Format: 40-minute presentation with breaks for Q&A.

Software: The presentation will be delivered via GoToWebinar®.
