Deadlines and site visits!

Well it seems that it doesn't matter whether or not your at university, but there's no escaping report deadlines. For the past fortnight I have been putting the finishing touches to a couple of weighty projects - and obviously that means that punctuality is the key! The difference between not submitting a corporate report against a lab write-up is obviously monumental - so must make sure that the target date is met!

Other tasks of the previous weeks have involved organising visits to sites. For those of you who are new reading this Blog, my internship is based in a technical service role - i.e. stuck in an office. So when the opportunity arises to get on site and take a nice breath of stenched-air I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Over the next 3 weeks I will be visiting three very different sites - all with a vast amount of processing units. I feel that this is a great advantage of my internship - get to work in a technical role yet still have chances to get out and play with the apparatus! As long as I comply with the stringent regulations and don't go undoing any nuts and bolts they seem happy!

On the agenda also is continuing my preparation to return to university at the end of the summer. I can't wait in some respects: get to finish my degree and earn some proper money, but then I will have to go back to living as a pauper! So all in all, this is probably the busiest period of the year for me now - but I would also add that is one of the most enjoyable as I am learning lots about general chemical engineering - my bread and butter, if you will!

Good luck for those of you who have your deadlines to meet - what with all the project work and exams on the horizon. Until next time......

Easter's here and summer's on its way!

Finally I can go out in the open without having to wear layers of clothing making me resemble the Michelin man! It has been a very welcome sight the sunshine over the past week, and I think that the moment to don shorts and flip-flops is nigh!

The joys of Easter are now upon us - and a traditional office Easter egg hunt was just the way to get in the spirit. Whilst we were treated to hot cross buns and an abundance of coffee, a team went round and hid eggs (Cadbury's cream size) across the entirety of our floor. After half an hour of stuffing ourselves we were invited back to casually look about the desk and floor space for the foil-wrapped wonders! But, adult engineers are anything but casual! There were people rushing everywhere - I believe this will be the only time I see the whole team regress to their former childlike states!

Anyway, it is now my plan to enjoy the festivities and the four days off. Lots to do and people to see! Have a relaxing break yourself, and if you can't due to design projects or revision, then indulge chocolate and hot cross buns!
