Last Monday I reached the pinnacle of my education - the day I collected my degree results. I must say that - as the cliche goes - it doesn't seem like yesterday since I first began my degree (it was actually 5 years!). In all that time though, the hard toil and anxiety, I did not imagine that I would feel so relieved for it all to be over.
I have to admit that I am tremendously happy with what I got and this will stand me in good stead for the future, but then if you aim high and work hard everyone can come out of uni a happy person (I think, anyway).
Since then I have really just enjoyed the free time. This week I have been at Silverstone for a few days to watch the majority of the F1 teams testing - I'm rather lucky as my father works for one of the teams and so got me access to the pits and to meet various people from the sport. This has really been the highlight of my time off so far but I've yet to go on my proper holiday - something I can't wait for. At least then, this will mean that I get some hot sunshine in before moving up to Scotland in the autumn to start my job (bbbrrrrrr!!!)
Next week I graduate which officially completes this time at university. Although originally I wanted to do a PhD (before taking a year in industry) I do believe that it is now time for me to move on, however, it wouldn't surprise me if years down the line I ended up back at university. We'll just have to wait and see!
The final major social of my university life passed this weekend gone with the end of year ball. I must say that usually these are attended as a necessity and are not always that fun, however, this one was an absolute blast! It was the perfect way to round off my 5 year degree and I will have many lasting memeories of that night. The best bit is that it was well worth the wait after the final chem eng projects of the year which see yourself sprinting to the very end!
Next Monday I collect my results - not to be confused with the graduation ceremony. I suppose that I would describe my anticipation as both nervous and apprehensive, although I am pretty sure (but not certain!) that I will be happy with the result I achieve.
Other than that I am currently looking at getting a little part-time job (around the engineering disiciplines) over the 2 month period between graduation and commencing my graduate job in September. Although it would appear a financial move, I am actually one of these sad people that gets bored when confronted with so much free-time and sunshine - I mean, only so much reading a TV watching that one can do!
Maybe next time I will be further along the road to having it all sorted and by then I will be a few days shy of officially graduating! Until then.......
