Today will unfortunately be a short entry as the removals company have yet to deliver my personal effects to my new home in Scotland - this means that i'm coming to you from an internet cafe fresh with coffee and muffin!!!
I begin my new job on Monday, although on my first day I will have a general induction in another part of the country. This means that I will be truly busy for the first day on site, but I must add, I'm really looking forward to the new challenge.
So, not much more to add at the moment - otherwise my computer time is going to run out - but in a fortnight's time I will be able to explain to you the job role that I am undertaking and, hopefully, give you an idea of some of my early experiences.
It is now only 2 weeks before my long holiday break and I have to begin earning some pennies to pay back the student loan man and, more importantly, get my brain back into an engineering frame-of-mind! That's right, a fortnight and i'll be a full person of work.
Before the beginning of September however I have to find somewhere to live and get myself settled in. In a couple of days i'll be flying to Scotland on the first of two trips to scout the potential lets. For me, this is one of the most stressful parts about life; the art of moving home. Luckily, the company that I am working for take the majority of the sting from this tail and employ the services of a fantastic company assisting me with the logistics. I believe that a large proportion of multinational companies, albeit in the energy sector, give their employees aid in these matters.
Apart from moving, the second prong of the fork to be attacked is re-stimulating my brain; it doesn't seem to take very long to slip out of the habit of solving mathematical or general chemical engineering related problems. For the job that i'm going into I will need to be familiar with fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, separation processes amongst other fields. Although this may sounds like a lot of subjects to know for just one job, most of them work hand-in-hand; the integration of these is usually highlighted in a degree programme when doing design projects.
So, a lot to keep me busy before the start of the new job and, no doubt, I shall next post from my new
situ. I hope that the posts over the coming months will be as stimulating, informative and varied as the job i'm about to being!
This week has been a welcome sight; after the tense and strenuous final weeks of my degree I finally have some proper time to relax. When you read this i'll be on the Isle of Skye for a family vacation - two weeks without any thought of process engineering!!!
When I return I will be continuing a search for a place to live for when I begin my job in Scotland at the end of August. Luckily the company that I am joining help tremendously with the whole relocation procedure - as do the majority of the multinationals - not just financially but with the logistics and the researching of the area.
So by the end of the month I will hopefully be fully settled in to a new abode and will looking forward to the new life ahead of me!
