Chemeca 2012 set for New Zealand

New Zealand

Next year's Chemeca conference will take place in New Zealand and will be the first Chemeca event hosted by SCENZ-IChemE since its formation in 2009. The conference location was announced today at a launch event in Wellington.

Launching the event to an audience of senior industry representatives, academics and researchers at Wellington’s Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, was Fonterra managing director trade and operations, Gary Romano and Professor of particle and process engineering at Massey University, Clive Davies.

SCENZ-IChemE chair David Platts says that Chemeca 2012, which will take place on 23-26 September 2012 at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. will be an opportunity to tap into the huge knowledge pool from the Asia Pacific region and encourage a wider understanding of chemical engineering to those outside the industry: “We are very fortunate to have secured two celebrated NZ industry leaders to conduct plenary sessions at the 2012 event, CEO of Auckland Uniservices Peter Lees and National Manager Biological Industries at the Ministry of Science and Innovation Max Kennedy.

“I would also appreciate any feedback from members wanting to participate in the 2012 event by either attending, or by offering papers to present at the conference," adds Platts.

The Chemeca 2012 programme will support the priority areas of bioengineering, energy, food and water, and the underpinning principles of health and safety, and education and sustainability, while providing a forum for discourse on the wider range of topics relevant to the chemical engineering profession.

"Chemeca 2012 will highlight the significant contributions made by chemical and process engineers from New Zealand, Australia, and beyond, to advance industrial practice and cutting edge research & development in the varied and diverse fields spanned by the chemical and process engineering disciplines," says Platts.

Chemeca is the annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand community of chemical engineers and industrial chemists and is held under the auspices of IChemE in Australia, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Society of Chemical Engineers New Zealand – Institution of Chemical Engineers in New Zealand.

In November 2009 the members of SCENZ voted to become the branch of IChemE in New Zealand where IChemE currently has almost 400 members.
