IChemE subject groups renamed
IChemE subject groups are now known as special interest groups ahead of their introduction as a free member benefit in 2012.
The rebranding of the groups was announced yesterday at the IChemE subject group forum.
Next year all IChemE members will be invited to opt for free membership of one special interest group. Members will be asked to specify their preferred group on their 2012 membership renewal form.
IChemE has 19 special interest groups covering every aspect of chemical and process engineering. Next year, each group will be tasked with staging physical and virtual events with many also publishing additional newsletters and resources.
Each special interest group also has a dedicated section on the IChemE website where group members will be able to share news and information.
IChemE communications manager Matt Stalker said: “IChemE special interest groups in 2012 will look very different to the subject groups of 2011 and previous years. Each of the groups will take on a global remit, which will better reflect IChemE’s status as a global organisation.”
The special interest groups will also play an important role in the review and roll-out of IChemE’s technical strategy. The strategy review will be completed and published in May 2012.
For more information about each of IChemE’s special interest groups, read the supplement circulated with the October issue of tce.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
