An international line-up of process safety experts and regulators will head to Liverpool, UK next week for IChemE’s Hazards XXII symposium.
Hazards XXII takes place on 11 - 14 April at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel and will focus on the current challenges and latest developments in process safety and environmental protection.
Featuring 100 presentations including key contributions from the Health and Safety Laboratory to mark its centenary year, Hazards XXII will include keynote papers from former US Chemical Safety Board ceo, John S Bresland, renowned safety guru Trevor Kletz and director of the Mary K. O'Connor Process Safety Centre at Texas A&M University, Sam Mannan.
Bresland will use the Burgoyne Memorial Lecture to re-examine lessons learned in a catalogues of process safety incidents ranging from sugar to oil refineries. Kletz’s presentation will review ICI’s lasting contribution to process safety, and Mannan will present an analysis of the Buncefield explosion and fire.
Parallel session topics include: occupied buildings, risk assessment & analysis, sharing safety knowledge, safe process design, safety management, compliance with standards, emerging energy technologies, and human factors & behaviour.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
About IChemE
IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) is the hub for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide. With a growing global membership of over 32,000, the Institution is at the heart of the process community, promoting competence and a commitment to best practice, advancing the discipline for the benefit of society, encouraging young people in science and engineering and supporting the professional development of its members.
