Safety experts set for Hazards Asia Pacific
An international audience of around 250 process safety experts and regulators will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this week for the inaugural IChemE Hazards Asia Pacific (Hazards AP) conference.
Hazards AP takes place on 27 - 29 September and will focus on the current challenges and latest developments facing process safety and environmental protection in the Asia Pacific region. The conference is being jointly staged by IChemE and the CICM (Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia).
Keynote speakers include Mohd Tarmizi Munir, head of the Malaysia Group HSE division at PETRONAS; nuclear industry expert Paul Haigh; Dato’ lr Johari Bin Basri, director-general of Malaysia’s department of occupational safety and health; Karon Armstrong, senior regulatory specialist at 3M Medical, USA; Jinsong Zhao, director at Tsinghua University’s process systems engineering institute, China; and Ian Travers, head of the UK Health and Safety Executive’s chemical industries strategy unit.
The three conference themes are: current challenges and opportunities, lessons learned from process safety incidents, and the way forward – safer design and the regulatory challenge.
Technical presentations will highlight the importance of exchanging knowledge, learning from past mistakes and sharing best practise.
In addition to a comprehensive technical and social programme, Hazards AP will feature extensively on Bernama TV, Malaysia's 24-hour international news and current affairs television network. As the conference’s official media partner, Bernama TV will air reports direct from Hazards AP and relay both pre and post conference shows. The exclusive broadcasts will feature interviews with key conference contributors and on-site filming at Ancom Crop Care.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
About IChemE
IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) is the hub for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide. With a growing global membership of over 33,000, the Institution is at the heart of the process community, promoting competence and a commitment to best practice, advancing the discipline for the benefit of society, encouraging young people in science and engineering and supporting the professional development of its members.
