UK Health and Safety leader meets IChemE members in Australia
Senior IChemE members enjoyed an opportunity to rub shoulders with several IChemE council members earlier this month at an exclusive networking event held in Southbank, Victoria.
Judith Hackitt, chair of the UK Health and Safety Executive was joined by IChemE deputy president Russell Scott, vice president of qualifications David Shallcross and Chair of IChemE in Australia Noel Williams.
Williams said that the event was well attended, with over 30 members enjoying an opportunity to network and catch up with colleagues: “Judith spoke about her career highlights, going back to where it all started, to now. Judith has been very proactive in giving a voice to process safety, both in the UK and globally and her experience in working on opposite sides of industry, both as a regulator and in industry, has been invaluable to the chemical engineering profession.
“She has been able to successfully influence from the top, making our senior community leaders, through to individual teams, to take safety responsibly,” adds Williams.
A similar local networking event is set to take place again in September. For more information contact Jan Althorp.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
