Young chemical engineers set for networking masterclass
Places are still available for this week’s Networking skills for early career engineers webinar being presented by IChemE director of communication Andy Furlong. The online training session is free to IChemE student members.
The one hour session takes place on Friday 15 July and will see Furlong share techniques and strategies for building trust and developing collaborations for a successful career in the process industries.
The seminar will take place at 08.30 BST and be repeated at 14.30 BST later that day.
Topics include: learning how to ‘work a room’; initiating conversations and securing effective follow-ups; and how to avoid the bad habits that can impede good networking.
The session is aimed at early career chemical engineers with limited experience of face-to-face networking outside their immediate peer group. It will also be useful to chemical engineers who wish to build self-confidence in public.
Furlong joined IChemE in 1999 after 14 years spent in the manufacturing industry. He has been closely involved in the delivery of several major IChemE projects including the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering and the Technical Strategy Roadmap.
The non student member registration fee is £8.33 (+ VAT) to IChemE members and £12.50 (+ VAT) to non members.

About chemical engineers
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
About IChemE
