APPEA partners with IChemE Safety Centre

Shell, ExxonMobil, Santos, PTTEP Australasia and Woodside, represented by the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA), have been named as the first industry partners of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Safety Centre.

The IChemE Safety Centre (ISC) is a subscription based industry-led consortium, focussed on recognising and tackling process safety requirements in the chemical and process industries.

Objectives include industry reporting, sharing of safety bulletins, sharing learning on process safety incidents & near misses, managing the safety of ageing facilities through implementing HSE knowledge, identifying commonly required process safety training, identification and measurement of leading process safety indicators and improving process safety culture. IChemE is also in the process of recruiting its first director of process safety.David Byers ceo APPEA and IChemE Australia chair Moses Tade sign ISC agreement

APPEA is a national body representing more than 80 oil and gas explorers and producers in Australia. The Association represents a further 250 companies that provide goods and services to the upstream oil and gas industry and promotes the development of oil and gas resources. It also works closely with government with a view to securing optimum regulatory and commercial conditions for industry.

IChemE Australasia director Peter Slane says that securing APPEA member support will help the ISC both benefit industry and steer IChemE activity in the process safety space: “Working with APPEA is significant in that the ISC’s aims match the objectives of APPEA in promoting excellence in health, safety environmental performance and industry reputation. We look forward to welcoming more APPEA members into the ISC, as well as other major industry employers around the world."

Visit the IChemE Safety Centre website for more information or contact Peter Slane to learn more about industry membership.
