Singapore honours chemical engineers at IChemE Awards

The National University of Singapore, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Shell Eastern Petroleum picked up some of the major awards at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Awards in Singapore last month.

The IChemE Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and achievement in the chemical and process industries across the world.

The IChemE Awards in Singapore form part of an exclusive series of events across the world, including ceremonies in Malaysia, North America and the UK.

In total, five awards were presented at the IChemE Awards and Annual Dinner, supported by the Institution of Engineers Singapore, on 23 October 2013 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.

Two of Singapore’s leading academic institutions were honored with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and National University of Singapore collecting the Education and Training Award and the Sustainable Technology Award, respectively.

The Pharmaceutical and Speciality Product Award was presented to the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences for their innovative pharmaceutical and chemical plant design.

One of of Singapore’s most talented chemical engineers, Ardi Sastrohartoyo from Orica Ltd, won the Young Chemical Engineer of the Year Award.

Major oil and gas organisation, Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd, collected the Process Safety Award, along with co-winner, Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd.

Awards judge, Keith Carpenter, said: “Congratulations to all the winners for their success, and also the other shortlisted entries that came so close to winning a prestigious IChemE Award.

“The chemical and process industries are a successful and significant part of Singapore’s economy. The IChemE Awards are recognised around the world and a fitting occasion to showcase the talent here in Singapore”.
