ESOS registrants

Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Lead Energy Assessors must engage in ongoing CPD and revalidate their registration each year in order to remain on the register.

All registrants are expected to maintain an annual CPD record.  By paying their annual ESOS subscription registrants are declaring that they are participating in CPD and remain professionally active, IChemE will then request evidence from a random sample each year to ensure adherence.

Sampled registrants will be contacted and asked to complete a submission form and to submit supporting evidence. Supporting evidence may be reported using the mycareerpath online CPD recording tool, although other reporting methods will be accepted.

An ESOS registrant should look to conduct CPD activities against the nine core competency requirements:

  1. understanding the operational context of an organization being assessed;
  2. familiarity with, and ability to apply, the requirements of energy efficiency assessment methods
  3. scoping an energy efficiency assessment, as applicable to the organization being assessed
  4. understanding, in detail, of energy use and energy systems applicable to the organization being assessed; (buildings, industrial, transport)
  5. managing energy efficiency assessment teams and budgets, and managing working relationships (link also to Section 4.5 of PAS);
  6. understanding the techniques of measuring, sampling, sub-metering, and establishing an energy balance
  7. data interpretation, including analysis and scrutiny of energy use, energy consumption, and energy performance data;
  8. identification, quantification, ranking and prioritisation of opportunities for improvement;
  9. preparing and presenting a technical and non-technical report for an energy efficiency assessment.
