Dow Chemical CEO to open Chemeca 2017

19th June 2017

Dow Chemical CEO and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), Andrew Liveris, will give the Welcome Keynote Address at this years’ Chemeca - Australasia’s premier chemical engineering conference on Sunday 23 July. Held as the partner conference to the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) Centenary Congress, the meeting is expected to attract over 4,000 delegates.

Liveris has served on Dow Chemical’s board of directors since 2004, and was elected as Chairman in 2006. He wrote Make it in America in 2011, which outlined practical business strategies for growing and sustaining America’s manufacturing sector. In December last year, the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed that Liveris would lead the American Manufacturing Council, and head up his ‘Manufacturing Jobs Initiative’.

Liveris was also honoured with the IChemE George E Davis Medal in 2011, for his work and gave a lecture on the changing nature of 21st century manufacturing. His presentation at Chemeca 2017 is particularly relevant to the conference theme - ‘Innovation through science and engineering’.

Chemeca 2017 will also feature a novel session, billed as ‘Academic Sharp Brain’. This will provide an opportunity for delegates from academia and industry to pitch innovative ideas to invited experts and potential investors. Interested parties are invited to submit their pitches to the committee ahead of the conference, via the website.

The event will also host the Awards of Excellence in Chemical Engineering, which includes the new IChemE Safety Centre Award – recognising personal commitment and leadership by an engineer or scientist in the area of process safety. Global engineering services provider KBR will present the Student Design Prize to an outstanding final year design project from an Australian or New Zealand university chemical engineering department.

Chemeca 2017 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) in Melbourne, Australia on 23-26 July 2017. It is presented by RACI, IChemE and Engineers Australia.
