Finalists announced for IChemE's Malaysia Awards 2017

17th August 2017

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has officially announced the finalists for the IChemE Malaysia Awards 2017. Thirty-one entries have made it to the final stages of the Awards, and an overall winner from each category will be revealed on 16 October 2017.

The IChemE Malaysia Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and achievement in the chemical, process and biochemical industries. At last year’s ceremony, PETRONAS, the national oil company for Malaysia, scooped two trophies and three runner-up mentions.

The Awards attracted 82 entries this year, and finalists include East 101, Synthomer Sdn. Bhd, Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd, Agridon Technologies Sdn. Bhd, PETRONAS, Green Lizard Technologies Ltd and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in categories awarding overall projects or teams.

Two individual awards will also be presented – Young Industrialist Award and Young Researcher Award. Finalists include three industrialists from PETRONAS, Thivagar Sugumaran from Synthomer Sdn. Bhd, and two researchers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, one from Heriot Watt University Malaysia and one from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia.

The IChemE Malaysia Awards take place on 16 October 2017 at InterContinental, Kuala Lumpur where the winners will be announced. The ceremony in Malaysia is just one of three international events organised by IChemE to celebrate chemical engineering achievements. Other events include the IChemE Singapore Awards (19 October 2017) and the IChemE Global Awards (2 November 2017).

Winners of the IChemE Malaysia Awards will be automatically shortlisted for the IChemE Global Awards, held in Birmingham, UK, including the overall Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering, which will be selected from all entries received worldwide.

IChemE’s director for South East Asia, Mike Cloke, said:

“We’ve had an impressive number of entries for the Malaysia Awards 2017 and the judges would like to thank all the individuals and organisations that have taken their time to enter their fantastic applications for this year’s Awards.

“All who have submitted projects for this year’s Awards should be incredibly proud of their achievements and these entries show the sheer talent we have across the industry and universities in Malaysia.

“It’s a great feeling to be recognised by your peers with an award for your hard work and dedication to advancing chemical, biochemical and process engineering. I’d like to congratulate all the finalists and hope you enjoy a wonderful evening celebrating everyone’s accomplishments across the industry.”
