No the registration does not include accommodation, it is the responsibility of the delegate to arrange their own accommodation, a list of suggested hotels will be available on the conference web-site.

Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the conference, can I substitute a colleague?

Substitutions can be made up to the day of the conference. To do this please notify the conference department in writing of the name of the registered delegate and the name of the substituting delegate as soon as possible.

I am an international delegate, why do I need to pay VAT?

Conferences that take place in the UK are liable for UK VAT as they are classed under VAT legislation as 'services' and therefore VAT is chargeable at source. Overseas delegates must pay the VAT charged on their invoice initially but can claim this back from the UK VAT office. For information on reclaiming VAT see Notice no 723 which can be obtained from www.hmrc.gov.uk

Should a conference take place in another EU country then the VAT obligation is to that country i.e. Belgium, Spain and the IChemE will have been obliged to register for VAT in that country. Again VAT can be reclaimed for delegates from countries other than where the conference is taking place. The above notice 723 also contains details for claiming from all EU countries.
