Catalysis Summer School Bursary
IChemE provides funding for up to 20 PhD, EngD or MSc students to attend the week-long summer school Catalysis: Fundamental and Practice about the fundamentals of heterogenous catalysis. It is organised by, and held at, the University of Liverpool’s Department of Chemistry every two years. This year, it will be held from 18–22 July 2022.
The summer school will provide early career researchers with an introduction to the fundamental aspects of catalysis, the chance to discuss and discover the latest developments in catalysis research, and share knowledge to broaden understanding within the catalysis community. It is also an opportunity to learn from industrialists and academics in the field presenting their work at the summer school, as well as network and develop new professional contacts.
IChemE has introduced the bursary under the Andrew Legacy Scheme to support students in enhancing their knowledge in catalysis.
The bursary from IChemE is open to current PhD, EngD and MSc students worldwide or those who have graduated within a period of 12 months before the closing date of the current round.
Applicants will be asked to submit a written explanation within the application form of how the summer school will help them to progress their research. For this, there are three questions with a short answer required (a maximum of 250 words each).
A selection panel made up of IChemE member volunteers will review applications. They will identify the applicants whose work they believe will benefit most from the practical catalysis skills taught on the course.
IChemE membership is not essential to apply, but members will be given priority. If you would like to become a member, find out more about IChemE membership.
The bursary awards each person up to £2,000 in travel expenses (including visa application fees, where required) and up to £1,000 to cover course fees and the cost of accommodation.
Applications for the catalysis summer school bursary for 2022 are now closed.
Further updates for the next bursary available will be made on this webpage in due course.
