Information and advice for young members

Job-hunting

Not sure where to start? Here's how we can help.

Accredited company training schemes (ACTS)

IChemE accredits in-company graduate training schemes across chemical, biochemical and process industry, in order to help graduate chemical engineers realise their potential and maximise their value to the company.

ACTS ensure that graduate trainees gain high quality and relevant experience, allowing them to achieve Chartered Chemical Engineer status as quickly as possible.

Find out which companies have accredited training schemes.

The Chemical Engineer

Use your subscription to The Chemical Engineer to find out what’s going on in industry and access an impressive job advertisement section. Get daily updates to keep you informed of which companies are doing well, which industries are expanding, and to help you get an accurate picture of the job market.

Regional member groups

As a member of IChemE you have access to the best resources for careers information – your fellow members! Attend regional member group events to make contacts with those in the same position as you; members who have started a new job and can offer tips and advice; and some who will be in senior positions, able to explain what they look for in a candidate.

Special interest groups

If you are interested in a particular sector of chemical engineering why not get involved with the appropriate special interest group? Meet other engineers who work in your field and use these contacts to find out which companies are hoping to expand, who to send your CV to, and how to get into your chosen industry. As an IChemE member you can join as many special interest groups as you like as part of your membership subscription.

Change your membership grade

If you have already graduated and have proof of your degree award (ie degree certificate), you should upgrade your membership.

IChemE Student Members are transferred to the Affiliate Member grade after graduation and receive their first year’s membership subscription for free. However if you graduate with a chemical engineering  degree (or an IChemE accredited degree of a different title) at bachelor's level with honours or above, you can upgrade to Associate Member at no extra cost, allowing you the use of AMIChemE post-nominals on your CV and digital signatures.
