You invest significant resources in the daily management, control and mitigation of risks at your organisation. However, avoiding or reducing hazards is inherently safer than controlling them.

This course will give you a greater understanding of the concept of 'inherent safety' including the main principles, tools and measures for a safer, efficient and more profitable plant and operations. 

There are major benefits and efficiencies to be achieved by promoting and creating an inherently safer working environment where the amount of hazardous material and hazardous operations are reduced. Unlike other risk management strategies, inherent safety seeks to remove hazards at source.

The concept of inherent safety was inspired originally by Trevor Kletz and attempts to eliminate hazards completely.

Simon Casey - Risk and Safety Consultant

Simon Casey has twenty years’ experience as a risk and safety consultant in the oil and gas, chemical, mining, transport, environment and utilities industries, following an earlier career as an offshore Production/Petroleum Engineer for BP Exploration. He is experienced in Quantitative and Qualitative Risk Assessment techniques and in Safety Cases for both offshore facilities and onshore Major Hazard Facilities.

Simon's specialist skills include Audit, Incident Investigation, Process Improvement, Project Risk Management, Decision/Options Analysis and Systems Development.

He was invited by IChemE to be one of the first registered Professional Process Safety Engineers in Australia and to be an assessor of senior process safety practitioners.
