Mentoring for Chemical Engineers

Topic Personal Development and Leadership

CPD Hours 4*

Price £235 + VAT

Overview

Mentoring is a vital activity in chemical engineering, whereby more experienced engineers encourage the professional development of those with less experience. When done well, mentoring has immense benefits for the individuals and their organisations. Unfortunately, when done poorly, mentoring can do damage.

This modular online course will help you to become a better mentor, encouraging others to manage their own learning and empowering them by asking and listening, rather by instructing and advising. It has been developed with the specific needs of the chemical engineer in mind.

You will learn how to apply mentoring concepts, approaches and tools with an emphasis on developing your skills as a mentor. The modules, each around 60 minutes in length, are effective as stand-alone training sessions or as part of a modular programme.

Why leadership and mentoring skills are important for engineers

The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) sets out the competence and commitment required for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).

The specification requires engineers to demonstrate effective communication and inter-personal skills such as:

  • identifying team and individual needs, and planning for their development
  • leading and supporting team and individual development
  • assessing team and individual performance
  • providing feedback.

What's included in the series

  • Four digital recordings for your personal use
  • Digital copies of all slides and supporting materials (PDF) for your personal use
  • E-certificate of attendance, including hours allocation, for CPD purposes  (on request)
