Description: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), alongside increased renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear and lifestyle changes, is critical to mitigate against climate change. Dr Fennell will discuss the technical, environmental and societal challenges in the implementation of different CCS technologies and outline future possibilities. Some refreshment will also be available.

Dr Fennell heads the Energy Engineering and Carbon Capture group at Imperial College Chemical Engineering and has published widely on the subject of calcium-looping technology and in the wider field of chemical engineering. He sits on the Institution of Chemical Engineers Energy Conversion subject panel, the International Energy Authority High-Temperature Solid Looping Cycles Network Executive, and has written reports for the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on future technologies for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and carbon capture readiness. He is also the director of Imperial College's Centre for Carbon Capture and Storage, and the UK research area champion for Industrial CCS. He has published around 40 papers since 2005.
