Vivergo and Ensus fear UK's proposed 2% cap on conventional biofuels

In the UK, Vivergo says there is a real chance its ethanol plant in Hull could be shut if the government caps conventional biofuel blending at 2% from the current 4.5% mandate and eventual 9.75% mandate expected for 2020 in line with the European Union Renewable Energy Directive. If conventional biofuels are capped at 0%, then the company will absolutely shut down the facility. Ensus echoes Vivergo’s sentiment that a 2% cap would shut the facility, following various short-term shutdowns when economics for the plant didn’t work. Source: Biofuels Digest 21/2/2017
