Topic

ContractMany disputes in the construction and engineering industries are caused by not reading, understanding or using existing contracts. Hardly anyone, including the lawyers, has the time or inclination to read long, adversarial and jargon-filled standard forms.

This webinar helps you understand what you need to create an effective contract. It is aimed at anyone responsible for creating, revising, reviewing or negotiating contracts as part of their job. After the webinar you will be able to:

  • list the five legal requirements for a contract
  • avoid the three myths and three temptations when writing or adapting a contract
  • confidently write simple and effective contracts for small projects
  • use contracts as a tool to help your company do business

The event is hosted by Dr Martin Currie, chair of the Consultancy Special Interest Group.

Speaker

Sarah FoxSarah Fox is the author of a series of 500-Word Contracts™ for construction projects. She is an award-winning speaker, trainer and contract strategist. She spent 20 years tearing her hair out over the use and misuse of engineering and construction contracts. Her keynote is 'Never Sign on the Dotted Line – contracts are about trust not terms' and encourages the audience to learn to use their contracts to help them do business, rather than hide from terms. Sarah wrote the LexisPSL guide to the IChemE forms. With simplicity as her aim, she created a fully functional construction contract in just 500 words – to challenge the industry’s bad habits and love/hate relationships with contracts.
