The major Jubilee Oil Field was discovered in mid 2007 offshore Ghana, West Africa in water depths of greater than 1,300 metres. The field began production in November 2010, only some 40 months later – a remarkable record setting pace for a major deepwater scheme. The field faced not only technical challenges in its development but also significant expectations with respect to positive impacts expected by the population in a country new to major oil and gas projects. The talk will review the critical success factors to deliver a major project at such a pace, some of the technical factors dealt with and give some examples of the impact the project has had to date in Ghana; an address now firmly on the oil and gas map. The talk will also include a 20 minute DVD film of the project, which provides an impressive overview of its scale and the absolutely key importance of teamwork to deliver any project.( Illustration is the Kwame Nkrumah MV21 FPSO)
