The topic

Mr Shahrul Azman Zainal Abidin CEng FIChemE, of PETRONAS GTS, will discuss the design and field trials of a proprietary separator system jointly developed by PETRONAS and NGLTech now operational on an FPSO offshore Vietnam. The compact separator design is applicable for two phase or three phase separation providing high liquid droplet removal efficiency using minimal space and weight, and requires minimal controls and instrumentation. The separator is particularly suitable for waxy fluid services and for facilities where motion effects are high, e.g. FPSOs. The proposed equipment configuration enables the internals of the gas polishing section of the separator to function efficiently without the risk of blockage owing to the build up of wax at the internals. Compared to a conventional three phase separator with a separate gas polishing scrubber, there will be reduced instrumentation, e.g. PSVs, level, pressure, temperature transmitters, trip signals, etc.

The speaker

Shahrul Azman Zainal Abidin is a Fellow of IChemE and Custodian Engineer in the area of Process Simulation and Optimization with PETRONAS. He graduated as a Chemical Engineer from California State University, Long Beach, USA in 1988 and received his MSc Gas Engineering degree from University of Technology Malaysia in 1996.

The venue

The event will take place at the University of Nottingham Teaching Centre, Level 2, Chulan Tower, No 3 Jalan Conlay, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
