For the past 10 years, Dynamic Process Simulation (DPS) has been ubiquitous throughout the lifecycle of a processing facility. At the design stage, DPS allows an engineer to explore how process configuration, equipment selection and sizing, and control strategies may impact operability and safety. In operating facilities, DPS provides a virtual environment that enables engineers to identify operational problems or inefficiencies and safely devise workarounds. In training and knowledge management, DPS allows operators and engineers to be trained on models that produce realistic process responses.

This presentation will explore how DPS is used specifically for compressor surge analysis, the study of integrated pipeline and facilities, and how DPS models may be leveraged as training models.

Rafil Elyas is the founder, owner and Principal Consultant of East One-Zero-One Sdn Bhd (East101), a specialist consulting company focused on providing advanced process engineering and flow assurance solutions to the oil and gas industry. East101’s solutions have been used by the major oil and gas players, including PETRONAS, Shell, ExxonMobil, BHP, SBM and MODEC at design and operations phases of their assets.

Rafil’s career spans 20 years, starting at the Malaysian national oil company PETRONAS, followed by technical and managerial positions at Simulation Sciences (now Invensys) and Hyprotech (now acquired by AspenTech), and currently at East101. His areas of specialisation are compressor surge analysis, facility wide control strategy synthesis/optimization, pressure protection systems/HIPPS design and flow assurance (integrated transient pipeline and facilities models).

In addition to consultancy work, Rafil regularly conducts training and workshops in steady state and dynamic process simulation.

The event will take place at the University of Nottingham Teaching Centre, Level 2, Chulan Tower, No 3 Jalan Conlay, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Map and directions >>
