Topic

Raising sufficient finance is a critical element of success in project development. Projects in the oil and gas industry usually involve high levels of technical, commercial, legal and political risk and financing projects in this industry often presents special challenges. To raise funds successfully requires creative thinking and thorough understanding of the financial markets.

The purpose of this talk is to explain the characteristics of oil and gas project finance and examine how the process of raising project funding can impact the development process. When looking at funding, project sponsors and financiers are usually faced with a variety of options. Should internal funds be used? Are funds available through existing relationship banks? Will the capital markets provide the most cost effective funding solution? Should assets be leased? And, most importantly, how will these decisions impact the shareholders? These are all difficult questions to answer and will be determined by market and project circumstances.
