Topic

The Wheatstone gas processing Platform is an integral part of Chevron’s Wheatstone Project, a $29 billion integrated LNG development currently in construction. Subsea gas wells capable of 250-300 MMscfd flow-rate are tied back to the Wheatstone Platform, a gas processing platform, with a topsides weight of around 37,000 tonnes, designed to process and export 2,000 MMscfd of gas to an onshore LNG and domestic gas complex.

Chevron’s Australian business unit (ABU) successfully deployed an ‘Inherently Safe Design’ (ISD) approach for the Wheatstone Project upstream gas processing platform. Through a program of initiatives focused on ISD, a substantial improvement in the safe design of the platform has been delivered. In addition, the program has provided weight savings of around 7,000 tonnes and reducing the cost of the platform topsides by 20%.

Topics covered in the presentation include:
• an overview of the Wheatstone Platform
• making Incident and Injury Free (IIF) real for design contractors
• principles of Inherently Safe Design
• leading indicator process safety metrics during FEED
• the Biggest Loser competition success story
• design workforce culture
