SONG membership growing fast in Malaysia

SONG event 14 Nov 11, Kuala Lumpur

IChemE's Oil and Natural Gas Special Interest Group staged its second event in Malaysia last week, following its successful launch in September. The event, in Kuala Lumpur, attracted 52 participants, swelling SONG’s Malaysia membership numbers to 79. It is a very encouraging start — the more people involved, the more experiences that can be shared, and the more that members can develop as professional engineers.

Ms Cindy Liew, Principal Consultant within Environmental Resources Management (ERM)'s Kuala Lumpur office, presented a discussion on HAZard and OPerability (HAZOP) Study and its role in facilities design for optimum operability. Cindy stimulated active discussion by turning questions back on the participants.

SONG Malaysia takes a two-month break over the calendar and Chinese New Year period, resuming on 20 February 2012 with the topic 'Flow Assurance for Deepwater Subsea Developments' presented by Mustafa Mahmood, of Intecsea.

The 2012 / 2013 programme is being developed and offers of new topics are always welcome. Topics can be research, design or operational and cover any aspect of process engineering in the upstream and mid stream oil and gas industry. The aim is to share experience and stimulate conversation within the chemical engineers working in the oil and gas sector in Malaysia.
