As part of a specialised field called process systems engineering, mathematical modelling and optimisation plays an important role to help make better decisions, or currently known as data-driven decisions. In the age of big data and data analytics, mathematical modelling and optimisation is the backbone of what is known as the prescriptive analytics.

This talk aims to introduce the concept and some of its industrial applications via dummy cases. If done right, you’ll bring profits to your life, and your company.


Dr Zulfan Adi Putra, ExxonMobil

Dr Zulfan is a process engineer who’s very passionate in solving chemical engineering problems via process simulation, mathematical modelling and optimisation, data analysis, and statistics. Throughout his career both in industries and academia, he has been involved in various projects from R&D (process synthesis, conceptual process design, feasibility studies, techno-economic analysis), basic engineering, process plant improvements, and optimisation.

As hobbies, he has been volunteering to share various chemical engineering applications to university students, being an industrial advisor and field supervisor, and facilitating coding and robotic program at his kids’ school.
