ISC Case Study - Laboratory Experiment

The ISC Case Study - Laboratory Experiment is designed to highlight the hazards of work in laboratories as well as introduce the participant to the application of the Sample University Process Safety Management System (PSMS). This PSMS is designed to allow users to experience operational process safety within the university laboratory environment as well as assist in making laboratories a safety environment.

When running the case study each video should be in order and all four videos should be used for the complete story.  Between each video is a decision and discussion point with a handout to assist.  These handouts can be downloaded here.

It is important to view this case study in a group, to enable discussion to take place between each video, we discourage the ISC Case Studies being viewed in isolation from others.

Video 1

In this video we introduce the audience to the elements in the PSMS from then ISC. We then explore how this might be applied by witnessing in a high school science experiment.

Video 2

In this video we discuss the findings from witnessing the high school science experiment and then go on to witness an experiment being carried out in a university laboratory.

Video 3

In this video we discuss the findings from witnessing the university experiment and then go on to witness a second, more hazardous experiment being carried out in a university laboratory.

Video 4

In this video we discuss the findings from witnessing the second, more hazardous university experiment. We then discuss the actual outcome from each of the experiments shown, and how the  PSMS may assist in safely conducting experiments.
