IChemE UK Research Committee

The IChemE UK Research Committee forms an integral part of IChemE’s technical strategy, Chemical Engineering Matters, to raise the profile of the UK chemical engineering community both in academia and industry.

The committee acts as a primary point of contact for government, research councils and other organisations seeking a chemical engineering research view. The committee helps to coordinate and facilitate responses to requests and consultations from these organisations and has previously contributed to IChemE’s responses to the Dowling and Nurse Reviews.

The committee advocates for the chemical engineering research community. The committee published Chemical Engineering Matters for a Modern World that showcases examples of the high impact research from the chemical engineering community. This report was launched at the House of Lords in December 2016.

Other work by the committee includes:

  • support for the annual ChemEngDayUK conference
  • formation of a sub-group to increase the contribution of manufacturing to Chemical Engineering Matters
  • help to establish the early career researcher network for chemical engineers, launched in March 2017, to improve interactions between RCUK and the chemical engineering community
  • promotion and facilitation of research interaction between industry and academia.
