Akshat completed his PhD at The University of Queensland, followed by a postdoctoral position. Joining Monash University in 2011, Akshat leads the Catalysis for Green Chemicals group where his interest is in the field of heterogeneous catalysis for conversion of CO2 and biomass into renewable fuels and chemicals using nanomaterials.

He has published over 50 peer reviewed papers in high impact journals and has 6 patents. He is also the Theme Leader for Carbon Capture, Conversion and Utilisation theme of the Woodside Monash Energy Partnership, a joint research initiative by Woodside Energy and Monash University for decarbonising industries where it is hard to reduce point sources of CO2.

He has won numerous awards and fellowships, including the Caltex Award for Excellence in Chemical Engineering by the Australia and New Zealand Federation of Chemical Engineers.
