Overview

Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) have been identified by the IPCC report Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change as a key way to reduce the carbon footprint of air travel - an industry that is notoriously hard to decarbonise. This talk will focus on the prospects of SAF as a green fuel for both domestic Malaysian and international airlines.

This session will enlighten the audience on the specifics of SAF, from the production to consumption of SAF as well as its impact on the environment. The session will cap off with an audience driven, live Q&A session.

Speaker

Hafizul Hayazi, Senior Business Development Executive, PETRONAS

Hafizul graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Engineering (chemical) degree. Hafizul’s career at PETRONAS began in 2015 as an operations engineer (offsites) at the Malaysian Refining Company, where he primarily coordinated refinery product and storage activities. In 2017, Hafizul transitioned to the Technology Department as a process technologist for the delayed coking unit and hydrocracking unit. In this role, he contributed to the development of innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the refining process. This involved implementing several plant optimization and improvement projects.

In 2021, Hafizul decided to take a leap of faith to pursue a corporate role in order to play a more active role in shaping PETRONAS for the energy transition. He currently holds the position of Senior Business Development Executive in the Strategic Planning and Business Development Department (refining and trading), where he supports the company's growth strategies focusing on non-core businesses that includes SAF production and other biofuels.
