Overview

Join us for informal networking, followed by our technical talk on Engineering Ethics and Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The AGM will begin with a warm welcome from our Chair, followed by a summary of the previous year and details of Teesside IChemE group finances. We will also be joined by IChemE congress members who will give a congress update and give attendees the chance to provide feedback.

If you would like to become more involved with the group, we invite you to run for a 2019/20 committee member position. If you would like to find out more about this, please email membergroups@icheme.org.

The evening will end with a Q&A and feedback session, allowing Teesside members to find out more and shape future events.

17:30—19:30

Informal networking will begin from 17:30 with our technical talk beginning at 18:00.

Refreshments will be provided when networking and a buffet will follow our technical talk. 

Presenter

Bill Cotton, Johnson Matthey

A Principal Process Engineer and fellow of the IChemE who works for Johnson Matthey at their Billingham site. Bill graduated from Loughborough University in 1991 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and joined the catalyst business of ICI. After joining ICI, Bill worked in the methanol licensing business followed by secondments to work on Coogee’s LCM plant in Melbourne and Methanex’s methanol plants in New Zealand as a plant support engineer.

On his return to the UK, Bill lead engineering teams focused on reforming and methanol technology before moving into a techno-commercial technology manager role looking after ICI’s interests in methanol and ammonia technologies. Bill then lead a business development project in developing a revamp project team to support a wide range of improvements in our customers plants.

For the last seven years, Bill had looked after Johnson Matthey’s Leading Edge Synthesis Gas Customers with a focus on hydrogen producers leading to development of a highly efficient process for producing low carbon hydrogen to help decarbonise the UK. For the last twenty years, Bill has lead chemical engineering recruitment for the businesses he has worked in and for the last twelve years has developed and managed an IChemE accredited development programme. As part of this Bill has reviewed many C&C reports and advised on their content.
