Cleanaway will provide a tour of its largest national asset – MRL, 30 km west of Melbourne.

Receiving over 2 million tonnes of waste per annum, the landfill provides an essential service for Melbourne’s expanding population and is Australia’s largest landfill. The methane gas produced by the decomposition of organic waste is collected onsite, generated into electricity and sent to the grid, powering over 15,000 homes annually.

Visitors will view the operations and gain an understanding of landfill infrastructure and how our teams of operators, engineers and environmental technicians work together to manage the technological and environmental challenges. This tour will include the landfill, waste layering, biogas capture, power generation, ancillaries ( e.g. flare, controls and data analytics).
