Webinar: Decommissioning into the Next Decade and Beyond - A Chemical Engineer’s Perspective
  • Date From 27th October 2020
  • Date To 27th October 2020
  • Price Free of charge, open to all.
  • Location Online: 12:00 GMT. Duration: 1 hour.

Overview

Oil and gas infrastructure decommissioning is a truly multi-discipline effort which takes meticulous planning and a holistic strategic mind-set to optimise the outcomes. While not immediately obvious, due to the emphasis on the mechanical/structural challenges for a project of this nature, the skills of a chemical engineer in the decommissioning team can be invaluable.

The IChemE Aberdeen Members Group are hosting the event to explore decommissioning, find out more from current practitioners and discuss where the skills of a chemical engineer can be best used.

The webinar will be an interactive session with three recognised industry speakers and the help of Caroline Laurenson and Azzam Younes as moderators.

Presenters

Rebecca Allan, OGA

Rebecca graduated in 2013 from Heriot-Watt University with a first class masters degree in chemical engineering and has over six years experience in the energy industry.

Upon graduating, Rebecca joined an energy consultancy where she gained a strong background in asset performance and debottlenecking projects. After three years Rebecca began to specialise in decommissioning and soon rose to the position of Decommissioning Technical Authority. Rebecca’s contribution to the decommissioning industry was recognised when she was awarded the Decom North Sea Young Professional of the Year Award in May 2019.

Rebecca recently joined the Oil and Gas Authority as a decommissioning engineer where she works to promote efficient decommissioning practices which add value for both operators and supply chain.

Joe Leask, OGUK

Joe Leask is the decommissioning manager at OGUK. As part of his remit he works closely with industry, regulators and the UK and Scottish governments to develop an efficient cost-effective decommissioning capability, sharing best practice and promoting that expertise at home and abroad. He is also custodian of the industry’s decommissioning guidelines and leads OGUK’s industry forums and workgroups to deliver incentives, respond to government consultations, engage with stakeholders and promote industry dialogue.

Joe graduated from Heriot Watt University in 2011 with a first class masters degree in civil engineering, he is a chartered engineer and member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Prior to working for OGUK, Joe gained experience in decommissioning with Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Limited (RSRUK), working on a significant portfolio of fields at various stages of decommissioning from planning through to execution. Projects included the Beatrice, Saltire, Fulmar and Auk field’s decommissioning programmes and Buchan decommissioning project which was towed off-station in 2017.

Prior to RSRUK and after graduating, Joe worked for Jee limited and was a member of BP’s decommissioning team working in the UK and Norway. Joe was BP’s client representative on the offshore subsea decommissioning execution phase for North West Hutton and subsequently responsible for writing the project’s decommissioning programme Close Out Report.

Colin Hopkins, One Decom

Colin Hopkins is a decommissioning project manager within the UKCS decommissioning sector and is managing director of new start-up company ONEDECOM.

The ONEDECOM decommissioning portal launched in September 2019 with a clear aim of making decommissioning knowledge more accessible online, and to share the essential knowledge and value that has already been delivered within industry. ONEDECOM has been recognised by the OGA as an emerging source of learning to evolve an increasingly effective learning ecosystem.

The team at ONEDECOM have a real passion for making a difference in how we truly collaborate as a network of decommissioning professionals. Unlocking value within the industry by capturing knowledge and to promote learning
