Webinar: Renewable Energy
  • Date From 8th October 2021
  • Date To 8th October 2021
  • Price Free of charge, open to all.
  • Location Online: 12:00 BST. Duration: 1 hour.

Overview

In this webinar the presenter will review the work carried out within the offshore renewable energy catapult (OREC) including: offshore wind (OSW), tidal and wave, robotics and hydrogen production. Looking forward to the UK’s ambition of net zero by 2050, various OSW buildout scenarios will be discussed including the use of OSW for green hydrogen production.

Speaker

Gail Barnes, ORE Catapult

Gail is an engineer with ORE Catapult and works as part of the Energy Transition Alliance (ETA). She joined the ORE Catapult in 2020 following a successful 10 year career in oil and gas, as a drilling and production engineer, overseeing drilling activities, and production facility management world-wide. The roles included designing lightening detection systems for land rigs in Venezuela, and conducting anti-collision operations during drilling operations, which included delivering measurement while drilling data including azimuth and inclination surveying.

Previous to her career in O&G, Gail spent two years as a graduate engineer in the nuclear industry. Responsibilities included measuring arial effluent from numerous plants across the Sellafield site and liaising and reporting to the Environment Agency.

With an MEng in chemical engineering Gail’s expertise lends itself well to the decarbonising agenda within the Catapult. To date Gail has worked on projects ranging from analysis of routes to decarbonising North Sea offshore wind O&M vessels, to collaborating on producing a clean hydrogen roadmap for Scotland to become a major exporter of clean hydrogen in the next decade. Based out of the Humber region Gail is working on projects involving numerous Hydrogen Hubs around the UK.
