Overview

The Chester and North Wales Member Group are pleased to be able to restart our meetings and activities following a pause during the pandemic. We hope that you will be able to join us at this virtual networking event, providing members the opportunity to hear from our guest speaker, chat and discuss the type of events and topics that you would like to see over the coming months. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape a programme around you and the interests of other members.

Our speaker has investigated over 25 fire and explosion incidents in the oil industry in the last 34 years. His role has been to interpret the forensic evidence to explain the underlying fire and explosion mechanisms. He will present some of the more unusual aspects and the lessons learned for improved safety engineering.

Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain was a Principal Scientist at Shell Research and visiting Professor at Loughborough University and, now retired, works as an independent consultant. He has received the IChemE Hutchison Medal for work on compartment fires and jet fires and a Franklin Medal for hazard consequence analysis. He was an expert witness at the Piper Alpha Inquiry and founder member of the Technical Team for the explosion incident at Buncefield. He has published many papers on fire and explosion hazard consequence research and is currently the Chairman of the UK Explosion Liaison Group (UKELG).
