Overview

Who looks after the alarms on your operating plant? Do you know whether your alarms are all really needed? Do your operators know what to do when they all go off? Are the operators clear which alarms are the most important?

For a lot of plants that have been operating for a number of years, alarms can be towards the bottom of someone’s to-do list, always waiting for that elusive ‘quiet day’ to start working on them.

This presentation will share some experiences, and realities, of carrying out alarm management and rationalisation on a plant that is already in operation. There will also be time for you to share your experiences too during an interactive discussion.

Time

18:00—20:00

Speaker

Laura Castley, Process Engineering TA at Centrica Storage Ltd.

Laura is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and the Process Engineering Technical Authority at CSL in Hull, leading the Process Engineering team.

She started her career working in Teesside on a batch speciality chemicals plant and then on a continuous petrochemical plant, both in hands-on plant-based Process Engineering roles. In her 9 years at CSL she has worked in Operations Management as the Deputy Terminal Manager at CSL’s Easington Gas Terminal, and as the Process Engineering Technical Authority.

CSL has recently transitioned from operating the UK’s largest gas storage asset to becoming a natural gas production company, during which time the company has undertaken a large alarm rationalisation programme for both its offshore gas platform and onshore gas terminal.
