Marketing for Engineers & Annual General Meeting

  • Date From 19th June 2018
  • Date To 19th June 2018

All engineers have to present themselves and their companies. All of us have to sell. Peter will talk about how to overcome the big challenge of what to say and how to say it with the best impact. As in all the best engineering there is a process and a structure and Peter will introduce this during the session.

All members in the Manchester Group are invited and welcomed to the Group 2018 AGM. This year it will be proceeded by a talk on Marketing for Engineers which should prove interesting. Business will be kept short however this AGM falls on the second anniversary of the restarting of the local group from a period of dormancy. Following IChemE protocol, elected committee positions are normally held for two years therefore most of the members will be stepping down in order to permit a change of role, new positions, and a general switch – which is healthy in any voluntary organisation.

Submissions are therefore invited for the following positions:

  1. Chairman - Incumbent Martin Hyde (Note: Must be a Chartered Member)
  2. Treasurer - Incumbent Emily Wright (Note: Must be a Chartered Member)
  3. Secretary - Incumbent Lydia Gaunt
  4. Events Coordinator - Incumbents Shantell Richards and Stuart Moon
  5. Schools Coordinator - Incumbent Mike James
  6. University Coordinator - Incumbent Dr Xiaolei Fan
  7. Media Liaison - Vacant
  8. Data Coordinator - Vacant
  9. Mentor Coordinator - Vacant
  10. Industry liaison - Vacant
  11. Email Campaign Manager - Incumbent Thomas McMillan (not up for election as term less than two years at AGM)

Submissions should be made to the current secretary Lydia Gaunt. The closing date for submissions is 12 June 2018.

Should a position attract more than one submission, each candidate will have the opportunity to make a brief speech followed by a closed-vote of all those present to determine who will take up the role. Should a position attract only one submission that candidate will be elected unopposed. Should a position not attract any submissions the incumbent will continue until a replacement can be found, to ensure continuity of the group.

I would like to take this opportunity, as Chairman, to thank all those committee members who have given their time - in any capacity - for their efforts, and to thank the many people who have attended the events and talks we have run over the past two years. I’m very proud of what the committee has achieved in such a short space of time and this public acknowledgment of their efforts is well earned. I have found it a really pleasurable and enriching experience getting to know so many new faces from different backgrounds all within this small geographic area. I very much look forward to serving on the committee in whatever roles are left to me and helping things develop and grow. I would heartily encourage anyone to take part in this vibrant and successful Group and I hope I have been of some use over the past two years.

There will be tea, coffee, water, biscuits, cakes and fruit available for free in the main sitting room at the venue.
