  • Location Golden Bay Cement, Portland Road, Portland.

Overview

Join the Northland regional group on a site visit to Golden Bay Cement to view the recently commissioned tyre project which consumes used tyres into the cement manufacturing process. The tyres are combusted and the rubber, metal and ash produced are combined into the cement. The heat produced is used to offset the consumption of coal in the cement production process.

The environmental benefits include:

  • consumption of 3.1 million shredded waste tyres
  • reduction of GBC’s coal consumption by 15%
  • reduced iron sand use by 5,000 tonnes per year
  • reduced carbon emission by 13,000 tonnes per year.

Time

Meet at the Golden Bay Cement visitor car park at 16:50 NZDT.
