Chair

The figure-head who is driving the Oman Members’ Group.  Typically also the IChemE Senior Ambassador in Oman.  As part of the team that is the Committee, they decide on the programme of events for the year (typically the second Tuesday of each month).  They are available to answer questions, typically regarding Chartership.  They seek out opportunities to have speakers, particularly from visiting IChemE Members.  They seek out opportunities for site visits and other activities.  As a Committee Member they might be called upon to be the Master/Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.  That might involve having a welcome slide ready and checking the facilities before people arrive; welcoming everyone; thanking the speaker and inviting people to network.

The Chair is also the point of contact between the IChemE Congress and Membership.

Secretary

The organiser.  The Secretary holds the list of ‘Interested Parties’ as an Excel Sheet and updates it as there are new people, or people leave.  They use this list to regularly inform the Group what is happening (once a month).  They receive information about events, most often from the OSE/OPEN contact and should sort them for IChemE Member relevance, summarise them and share them.  The IChemE currently doesn’t have its own web location and promotes its activities and events via the OPEN Website.  The Secretary must arrange for that information to be passed to the right person for inclusion.

As part of the team that is the Committee, they decide on the programme of events for the year (typically the second Tuesday of each month).  For events that are being arranged, the Secretary should make sure that an event planner spreadsheet is sent to the IChemE about 6 weeks in advance to allow for advertising in the Global IChemE web calendar.  They seek out opportunities for site visits and other activities.

Treasurer

The role is to garner sponsorship of events so that drinks, food or other items can be provided.  Muscat University kindly offers us their facility to meet in.  However, if this were to change, the Treasurer would need to find the funds to pay for the meeting space, or to find an alternative meeting space.  As part of the team that is the Committee, they decide on the programme of events for the year (typically the second Tuesday of each month).  As a Committee Member they might be called upon to be the Master/Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.  That might involve having a welcome slide ready and checking the facilities before people arrive; welcoming everyone; thanking the speaker and inviting people to network.

Student Liaison Officer

Being aware of the Universities in Oman who offer a Chemical Engineering.  Finding out the needs of the Chemical Engineering Students and arranging talks to their Societies.  Arranging events that encourage Students to attend the main Oman Members’ Group.  This role is typically help by a new graduate or current student.  As part of the team that is the Committee, they decide on the programme of events for the year (typically the second Tuesday of each month).  As a Committee Member they might be called upon to be the Master/Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.  That might involve having a welcome slide ready and checking the facilities before people arrive; welcoming everyone; thanking the speaker and inviting people to network.

Oman Society of Engineers Liaison Officer

Being the point of contact with the OSE and OPEN.  Finding out what they require and liaising with the Central IChemE and the local Members’ Group.  They should also promote IChemE Oman Members to join OPEN. As part of the team that is the Committee, they decide on the programme of events for the year (typically the second Tuesday of each month).  As a Committee Member they might be called upon to be the Master/Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.  That might involve having a welcome slide ready and checking the facilities before people arrive; welcoming everyone; thanking the speaker and inviting people to network.
