Trinidad and Tobago
Maurice Massiah holds a BSc. (Hons) in Chemical Engineering and an MSc. in Production Engineering & Management from the University of the West Indies. He also completed the Engineering Management Programme at the University of Manchester. Maurice is both a Fellow of the British Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer with the UK Council of Engineers. In addition to this, Maurice is a Fellow of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago and a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago. He is also certified as a Project Management Professional.
Maurice began his career as an Engineer in Training at the state-owned oil company where he worked on the construction, commissioning, and start-up of a Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate (UFC) plant, after which he developed an Expert System for the UFC plant using Artificial Intelligence software. Following that project, he worked with a senior engineer developing a Linear Programming model for upgrading the Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery. He then went on to experience all aspects of engineering on a refinery upgrade project from concept development, through FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and start-up. Maurice worked on the world’s first CIRCORED process for reducing iron ore to pure iron using hydrogen gas and was involved in construction, commissioning, and start-up of that plant. Over the last 15 - 20 years, he has been involved in engineering management, working with BP on their Trinidad assets, and Atlantic LNG where he led efforts to set up the engineering assurance programmes for all major engineering disciplines. Currently, he is the Engineering Manager on EPC Contracts at Massy Wood Group
