Quantifying the Well Leak Rate of the Macondo Incident

Quantifying the Well Leak Rate of the Macondo Incident
  • Date From 26th March 2018
  • Date To 26th March 2018

After the Macondo incident, BP asked Dr. Mike Zaldivar, co-founder of evoleap, to determine if slug flow occurred from the Macondo blowout and, if so, what conclusions could be drawn about the flow rate from that period.

Dr. Zaldivar tackled the problem using industry standard Flow Assurance tools to model and estimate the potential range of flow rates from the well. Ultimately, he testified on behalf of BP and Anadarko during the quantification phase of the trial that had input to potential financial penalties.

During this Webinar the technical details that went into the leak rate analysis will be discussed, as well as how that analysis was subsequently used in legal proceedings.
