Overview

This webinar will focus on biochemical engineering and the outstanding services provided by Professor Lye, who has made major research contributions to the industrial biotechnology field. The webinar will highlight contributions in the areas of bioprocess miniaturisation and automation and the importance of doctoral level training in developing future leaders of the sector.

Speaker

Professor Gary Lye, Head of UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering

Professor Gary Lye completed his BSc and PhD in biotechnology at the University of Reading from 1985—1992. After graduation, Gary became a research fellow in chemical engineering at Imperial College London and then joined the University of Edinburgh in 1995 as a lecturer in chemical engineering. He joined UCL as a lecturer in biochemical engineering in 1996 and was a founding member of the UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering in 1998.

Gary is now Head of the UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Bioprocess Engineering Leadership. In addition to this, Gary is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, Fellow of RAEng, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of IChemE, and has served a full term as Committee Chair of IChemE Biochemical Engineering SIG between 2005—2009.
